Join us at a walk through one of the most beautifull villages at the Mosel river

At the end of a small rivulet valley you can find the pittoresque village BEILSTEIN. Beilstein lies between vineyards and one of the most impressive river curves of the Mosel. In this romantic Mosel village you have to see the picturesque market in a former tenth house as well as the former parish church St. Christopherus, the monastery group which leads you to the Karmeliter monastery with the black madonna (the gorgeous and precious piece of the baroque monastery church). You also will see the knight hall and lots of exeedingly framework houses, small alleys and corners.

Already with the first walk through the village you will understand why Beilstein was already often used for film productions and connoisseurs of the Mosel praise it as the most beautifull village at the Mosel river.

If we put the focus on history the following events are crystallizing:

Frankonian grave findings proof the colonization of Beilstein around 800 after christ. Since 1068 the village was owned by the feudal lords of Braunshorn. Under the regency of knight Johann (1299 / 1346) Beilstein obtains the city privileges and gets fastened. A jewish community was founded in 1309 and 1310 the former parish church was given. After the die out of the lords of Braunshorn in the year 1360 the von Winneburg are the new owners. In 1488 Beilstein belongs to the region of Kurtrier and since 1652 the earls of Metternich have taken over the regency of the village. In 1689 the castle Metternich was destroyed. In 1691 the foundation-stone of the monastery church was layed and the church was finished in 1738. The image of the villige like we see it today was originated in the 17th and 18th century and it is mostly very well preserved.
