The MOSEL river

Already the Roman poet Ausonius sung that the Mosel river is one of the most pittoresque areas of Germany. From the historical und cultural side it offers his visitor a huge number of proofs of its great and interesting past. With lots of twistings and curves the river shows always new fascinating and nice pictures, wonderfull views from the Mosel summits, inviting wine villages and cities, still and cosy routes to walk directly at the river, in the wineyards and the near forests.
The Mosel river which has a length of 242 km (from the start of the German border until it flows into the Rhine river near the city of Koblenz) surrounds a huge and fantastic wine country which was founded by the Romans. Below the mountains and slopes of this pittoresque river valley you can find the famous grapevines. On this sunny piece on earth grows the well-known strong RIESLING grapevine very well.

The vineyards are like a ribbon from the top of the Mosel river up to the city of Koblenz. Reading the villages names is like reading a wine list! The new trend to dry wines obliges the Mosel region because here grows this fantastic unique wine with its typical fine tartaric acid. The well-balanced rain conditions and the fast warming of the slate steep slotes creates the ideal basis for viticulture.

Travelling to the sights at the Mosel region offers also the possibility to enjoy the wine and the country in a cheerful atmosphere.
